The average Westerner over the age of 30 will gain a pound or more a year, every year. Some estimates are that 35 percent of the western society is overweight and with some nations with up to 50 or 60 percent of the population been overweight. Naturally, the best way to avoid obesity is to resist temptation and avoid excess calories cross your mouth in the first place.

The question is: are there practical effective ways to allow us to balance food intake and activities that can prevent the seemingly inevitable weight gain? The answer is yes. In addition to restricting unnecessary calories, there is much more you can do to lose weight and burn body fat

* Aerobic exercise has been recognized for years as the best way to burn body fat and lose weight. Adopting a fitness program with the main goal of achieving weight and fat loss must include weekly workouts.

Three 20 to 30 minutes workouts a week or longer when working at lesser intensities, of physical activity to get your heart pulse at rate that is 60 to 85 percent of its maximum will be great. Such activities include, power walking, jogging, cycle riding and rope skipping.

* Yoga and Pilates exercise. Yoga training exercises increase the effectiveness of your fitness program by improving balance, speed of motion and minimize injury or recovery times. Pilates teaches you good body posture, helps you to develop a strong body “core”, graceful movement increase flexibility, agility and economy of motion. Both Yoga and Pilates can be challenging yet safe. They can dramatically transform your physique and aid caloric consumption.

* Strength training exercise. Done correctly strength training will allow muscles to adapt and grow stronger to a progressively more difficult workout. Weight lifting will challenge your body to increase development of lean muscle which in turn results in an increased metabolic rate not only during exercise time but also at rest. Most fat is burned inside muscles therefore it will be correct to assume that the more muscle you have the more you burn body fat. Strength training helps you to build extra muscle.

* Stress reducing relaxation, meditation and rest. Stress has been found to generate high levels of the hormone cortisol produced by the adrenal glands. Cortisol’s role among others is regulation of the body’s use of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. When cortisol is secreted, it causes a breakdown of muscle.

Meditation helps to keep reaction to stress at a minimum which in turn will help cortisol levels to stay at healthy levels. Rest and/or sleep between cardio and strength training are necessary depending on activity and individual. Over training will result in the breakdown and loss of lean muscle tissue.

Adopting a plan that includes a combination of reasonable amount aerobic, flexibility, and strength exercise together with relaxation and rest it can set you on the road to successfully burn body fat and lose weight for life.
